Pirkey Barber PLLC, one of the nation’s largest firms devoted exclusively to the fields of trademark, copyright, and unfair competition law, again earned national, statewide, and individual recognition in the annual IP STARS rankings published by Managing Intellectual Property magazine.
The firm is one of only six in the United States to place in Tier 1 of the Trademark Contentious ranking, and it took a top-10 spot nationally with a Tier 2 placement in the Trademark Prosecution category — repeating the high national rankings Pirkey Barber achieved in these two categories over previous years. The 2020 rankings also mark the eighth consecutive year Managing IP ranked the Austin-based firm “highly recommended” in Texas.
Individually, seven Pirkey Barber attorneys were named 2020 IP STARS. In Texas, Bill Barber, Christopher L. Graff, Anna Kuhn, Wendy Larson, Steve Meleen, and Louis Pirkey were again recognized for excellence in trademark law. Tara M. Vold joined the IP STARS rankings this year, in the Virginia listing, for her trademark work in the Washington, D.C. area.
As a team, their rankings reflect the firm’s deep capabilities in trademark law, with acknowledgment of their prominence in trademark strategy and counseling, litigation, prosecution, office proceedings, and contentious matters. Managing IP also recognized their work for a diverse range of industries, including biotechnology, computer technology and services, electrical, electronics, fashion and luxury goods, film and music, ICT and software, medical devices, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, retail, technology hardware, telecommunication, and universities and research.
The research for IP STARS covers a variety of IP practice areas and more than 70 jurisdictions, making it a comprehensive and widely respected guide in the IP profession. Attorneys are selected based on interviews and surveys conducted by the Managing Intellectual Property researchers, as well as publicly available information, client feedback, and peer recommendations.
