Pirkey Barber is pleased to announce it has promoted Rebecca McCurry and Tyson Smith to members, effective January 1, 2021.

Rebecca focuses her practice on trademark and copyright law. She regularly advises clients in domestic and international trademark selection, clearance, and prosecution, and assists in developing global filing strategies for new marks. She also has significant experience in trademark policing and enforcement matters with a particular focus on internet-related violations, and she regularly counsels clients on the protection, registration, and enforcement of copyright assets.
Rebecca is a member of the Austin Intellectual Property Association and the International Trademark Association, where she serves on its Harmonization of Trademark Law and Practice Committee. She earned her J.D. with honors from DePaul University College of Law and her B.S. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Tyson focuses on trademark, copyright, and unfair competition law. He frequently represents clients in federal courts and in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also has experience advising clients regarding domain name and Internet issues, including cybersquatting, domain name disputes, and brand protection challenges involving social media platforms.
Tyson chairs the Trademark Internet Committee at the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and he serves on the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section’s Trademark Committee. He earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and got his B.S. from Brigham Young University.
