Elizabeth “Beebs” Hartzell is an associate at Pirkey Barber, where she helps clients protect and enforce their intellectual property rights. Drawing on her experience in federal court, Elizabeth brings thoughtful analysis, practical problem-solving, and strong research and writing skills to her work.

Before joining Pirkey Barber, Elizabeth served as a term law clerk to the Honorable Mark Lane, United States Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Texas. In that role, she helped manage Judge Lane’s extensive docket and worked on a broad range of legal issues, including intellectual property disputes. She also assisted with motion hearings, mediations, and trials, providing valuable insight into federal litigation and judicial decision-making.

Elizabeth earned her J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of the Texas Journal of Civil Liberties & Civil Rights and Symposium Editor of The Review of Litigation. While in law school, she participated in both the Civil Rights Clinic and Environmental Law Clinic and was actively involved in numerous pro bono initiatives. She was also recognized with The Review of Litigation Best Brief Award, presented to the authors of the top first-year legal briefs.

Before law school, Elizabeth graduated from St. John’s College with a B.A. in Philosophy and the History of Mathematics and Science. Her academic background sharpened the analytical and critical-thinking skills that continue to inform her legal practice today.

Away from work, Elizabeth enjoys throwing pottery, playing intramural volleyball, and hosting dinner parties with her friends.
