
Erik Combs
Erik Combs is a highly experienced attorney, focusing on trademark, copyright, and unfair competition law. His expertise lies in domestic and international trademark enforcement, online brand protection strategies, and trademark and software licensing. Known for his responsiveness and practical approach, Erik is a trusted advisor in the field of intellectual property law.
Erik Combs is a partner whose practice centers on domestic and international trademark portfolio management, enforcement strategy, and internet‑based brand protection. He regularly advises clients on developing and executing global enforcement programs, with experience spanning administrative proceedings, online takedowns, and coordinated multi‑jurisdictional actions.
Erik has extensive experience handling UDRP proceedings and domain‑name disputes, advising clients on strategies to combat cybersquatting, impersonation, and other forms of online infringement. He works closely with in‑house teams to align enforcement efforts with business priorities, delivering practical, scalable solutions for complex global portfolios.
In addition to enforcement, Erik counsels clients on trademark and software licensing and other transactional IP matters, allowing him to support both contentious and non‑contentious trademark needs. Clients and peers consistently describe him as “responsive, practical, and reasonable,” noting his ability to combine strategic judgment with efficient execution.
Erik earned his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the Texas Environmental Law Journal and received the Dean’s Achievement Award in Patent Law. He remains actively engaged with the law school, returning regularly as a guest lecturer on intellectual property law.
Within the professional community, Erik is an active leader and contributor. He currently serves as an appointed member on the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s (“AIPLA”) Committee on the Profession and previously served as Vice Chair of the Trademark Internet Committee and Chair of the Online IP Enforcement and Anticounterfeiting Committee. He is a frequent speaker on trademark enforcement and online brand protection issues at national and regional program, including AIPLA conferences.
His work has been recognized by World Trademark Review, which awarded him a Bronze ranking in the WTR 1000 (California) for 2025 and 2026, following prior recognition in Texas. Erik is also committed to pro bono service, mentoring law students through The University of Texas School of Law’s Entrepreneurship and Community Development Clinic and having previously represented clients through Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas. He received the Covington Pro Bono Service Award in 2019 and was selected as a Pathfinder with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity in 2021.
Outside of the office, Erik enjoys college football, grilling, and traveling.
