Katie McKnight is an experienced trademark attorney with a primary focus on enforcement and litigation, particularly opposition and cancellation proceedings. Her experience as a former interlocutory attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) brings a unique perspective to Pirkey Barber’s trademark practice.

Katie McKnight’s practice focuses on client counseling, policing, online brand protection strategies, domestic and international trademark enforcement, litigation, and opposition and cancellation proceedings before the TTAB.  Katie’s approach blends practical risk assessment with creative problem-solving, guiding clients through complex trademark landscapes both in the U.S. and abroad.

Prior to joining Pirkey Barber, Katie served as an interlocutory attorney at the TTAB, where she was responsible for researching, drafting, and collaborating with administrative trademark judges on eight precedential decisions and issuing orders on non-dispositive and procedural motions. She now leverages this experience in private practice, where she specializes in skillfully resolving trademark oppositions and cancellations before the TTAB.

Katie has also worked for AmLaw 200 law firms on both the East and West Coasts, where she helped brand owners adopt, register, and enforce their trademarks.  As a result, she has significant experience with trademark clearance, domestic and international prosecution, and strategic portfolio management, serving clients ranging from startups to multinational corporations.

Katie is a lifelong learner who brings that mindset to both her practice and her professional endeavors.  She has taught Trademark and Unfair Competition Law at The George Washington University Law School and helps organize the International Trademark Association’s Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition.  By staying engaged in legal education, Katie is able to better understand emerging issues and translate those developments into practical, forward-thinking strategies for her clients.

Outside of the office, Katie is an avid soccer player and runner and enjoys traveling with her family.
